Abstract

The article examines the criminal subculture as a social phenomenon that is the antithesis of general culture. The concept of criminal subculture is given, its place in modern society, its influence on the professionalization and spread of crime, including its role in the self-determination of crime, are investigated. Attention has been sharpened on the connections between the subculture of professional criminals and the penitentiary subculture. The key features and structural elements of the criminal subculture are described. Suggestions for neutralizing the criminal subculture are provided.
