MORAL FOUNDATIONS OF LAWYER ACTIVITY

Abstract

The article defines that the moral basis of advocacy is a complex 
phenomenon, the understanding of which is important for the realization of the 
true social vocation of the legal profession, the proper interpretation of this 
vocation at the level of individual lawyers and their associations. The importance 
of advocacy for the rights of vulnerable segments of the population along with 
clients who properly pay for the services provided to them is emphasized. The 
very fact of lawyers' participation in such processes cannot bring material well-
being, significantly affect the image and reputation, but it can testify to their 
involvement in important social transformations, bring moral satisfaction from 
belonging to something greater than everyday business processes. 
An understanding of the moral basis of advocacy as a multifaceted 
phenomenon has been formed, which encompasses standards established at the 
state and bar self-government bodies, moral principles and values, which 
originate from the historical traditions of the formation of the bar, which regulate 
both the external behavior of advocates in various typical situations and 
determine the internal, worldview aspects of virtuous behavior, participation in 
the processes of advocacy of rights in its broadest sense, as well as participation 
in public life, the processes of building civil society and public authorities. 
Attention has been drawn to the fact that the moral basis of advocacy is 
formed not only in the professional environment at the level of representatives of 
bar self-government bodies, but also at the level of the whole society, generalized 
and accepted by society ideas about good and evil, honor and dignity in certain 
situations. In view of this, advocacy arises and is built on the basis of this moral 
and ethical scale of the whole society. Therefore, the issue of developing this 
moral foundation is directly related to the legal culture and legal education of the 
entire population.
